6 August 2020
Dear Jellick Parents and Families,
Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year!
I hope you were all able to have fun with your family and enjoy the beautiful summer weather, even during this unique summer break. Our teachers and staff have been working hard to get ready for the new school year, and we can't wait to welcome you back in a virtual setting.
The first day of school, Monday, August 10, 2020, starting at 8:00 am.
This year, we will be starting the year off with 100% distance learning in virtual classrooms. Sometime during the year, when it is safe to do so, we may be able to welcome students back in person using a Blended Learning model. At that time, you will have the opportunity to select a virtual or blended setting for your student. We will keep you updated through a variety of communication methods including our website (www.jellickschool.org), Twitter (@JellickJaguars), Peach Jar, @JellickElementary on Facebook, and the brand-new Parent Square App. This letter will provide you with the information needed to get you off to a smooth start for the 2020-2021 school year:
IMPORTANT: HOMELINK DATA CONFIRMATION
Please make sure to complete Homelink Data Confirmation for your child by Friday, August 7. This is required for all students in Rowland USD and is especially important this year for communication and safety reasons. A district informational letter with log-in directions was mailed home on 7/27/20. Data Confirmation can be accessed through the AERIES parent portal on the RUSD website or RUSD App. If you did not receive the district letter or need any support, please contact the school office at (624) 964.1275. Once you complete the Data Confirmation, you will be able to view your child's classroom assignment. Classes will be available to view by Friday, August 7.
OFFICE HOURS
The school office is available via phone and email only, Monday - Friday from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm at (626) 964.1275 or by clicking “Contact Us” on our school website. Currently, the office is closed to any in-person visitors.
TECHNOLOGY DEVICE DISTRIBUTION
Student devices will be distributed the week of August 3-7. Please refer to the Technology Device Distribution schedule to see your assigned pick up time. Pick up will be drive-through only. Please note all students will be issued to a district device, whether you have a personal device at home. The district devices are configured to support district apps and online programs that teachers will be using. Students in TK-2nd grade will receive district iPads, while students in Grades 3-6 will receive district Chromebooks. Students that already have a district device since last year will be allowed to keep the device except for last year's 2nd graders and TK students. Any 2nd grader who borrowed a device last year must return the iPad and will receive a Chromebook. Returning TK students who borrowed a device last year must return their device and will be issued a new device.
STUDENT TEXTBOOKS AND MATERIALS
Distribution of student textbooks and materials will occur between August 10 - August 28. We will communicate the dates and times next week. We will schedule the distribution times for each grade level as soon as possible.
CLASSROOM ASSIGNMENTS
Parents will need to complete Homelink Data Confirmation on the Aeries parent portal to view your child's classroom assignment. Classes will be able to view on Homelink by August 7. For the safety of our community, classroom assignments will not be posted on the school office windows this year.
DAILY SCHEDULES
TK-K 8:00 am - 1:15 pm
Grades 1-6 8:00 am - 2:35 pm
Daily schedules and specific information regarding individual classes will be provided by teachers. In virtual learning, students will participate in both live interactive synchronous instruction, as well as asynchronous learning throughout the day. Virtual learning will take place on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. Wednesdays will be asynchronous learning with a short live check-in with students for attendance. Once we are able to return to in-person learning, new schedules will be shared with you.
ATTENDANCE AND GRADES
Attendance will be taken daily. Students will be required to be present for live interaction in order to get attendance credit and receive grades. We appreciate your support in making sure students are ready for school by signing on to their virtual class on time, dressed for school, and sitting in a location (ex. Desk or table) that would be best for their learning.
ABSENCE REPORTING
During distance learning, you must report absences by calling our office at (626) 964.1275 or by clicking “Contact Us” on our school website. Please include the date of the absence, the student's name, and the reason for the absence in the email.
SCHOOL BREAKFAST AND LUNCH PROGRAM
During distance learning, families may pre-order school meals for pickup at select school locations. Meals are only available for enrolled students of Rowland Unified and will be distributed twice a week on Wednesdays and Fridays from 2: 30-4: 30 pm Meal applications for the 2020-2021 school year are now available online; applications must be submitted annually. All families that will apply for free or reduced-price meals can apply online at family.titank12.com. Families must pre-order meals to pick up breakfast or lunch for your child. The order form link is located on the Nutrition Services website at rowlandnutrition.org. For more information about meal applications and the breakfast or lunch program, please visit the RUSD Nutrition Services website at rowlandnutrition.org or call (626) 854-8312.
