Jellick picked up three prized teachers for the 2013-14 school year to replace Mrs. Korkowski, Mrs. Aguirre, and Mrs. Talkov, who all retired last year.
Mrs. Darrow will be teaching 5th grade with Mr. Luna. She writes, "Hi! I have been teaching in Rowland Unified since 2000. I have taught 2nd, 4th, 5th, and 6th grades. I graduated from California State University, Fullerton with a Bachelor’s degree in Liberal Studies and a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential. Since then, I’ve returned to college twice to earn a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction in 2007, a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration in 2012, both from Concordia University, Irvine. When I am not teaching, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. I have been married for 12 years, and I have 3 beautiful daughters, ages 4, 7, and 11.
I am excited to be joining the Jellick Jaguar team! I am looking forward to building collaborative relationships with the students, parents, and staff. I am a firm believer in the idea that all students can succeed and that, with high expectations, can do more than they ever imagined. I take great pride in helping students reach their highest personal and academic potential. The sky is the limit!"
Ms. vanSchjindel is another addition who taught last year as a substitute. She will be teaching a K-1 combination, and introduces herself as follows: "Hello Jaguar Families! My name is Ms. vanSchijndel and I am very excited to be returning to the Jellick family as a teacher. I am a proud product of Jellick Elementary, starting my love for learning right here as a student. After graduating from Rowland High School, I attended Cal State Fullerton where I received my Bachelors of Arts Degree. I then attended the University of La Verne where I graduated with both a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential and a Masters of Education with a special emphasis in English Language Development. I have worked for Rowland Unified School District as a Student Assistant, Instructional Assistant, and Substitute Teacher since 2007 and I am very excited to begin serving our community as a teacher here at Jellick! GO JAGUARS!"
Finally, Ms. Ramos joins us from Hurley Elementary. She will be teaching 3rd grade with Ms. Willie and Mrs. Nakata. She writes, "Hello Jellick students and parents! I’d like to introduce myself. In 2004 I earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Liberal Studies from Cal Poly Pomona. I chose to further my education at University of La Verne. There, I earned a Multiple Subject Credential in 2006, and a Masters of Education in 2008. While attending school, I worked for Rowland Unified School District in various positions. In 2003, I worked as a student assistant helping teachers and office staff with classroom projects and clerical duties. After I graduated, I began working as a substitute teacher. For a short while during the 2007-2008 school year, I worked as an adult ESL teacher. My passion has always been to teach children, so I resigned to take a long term substitute position teaching Kindergarten at Jellick. That opened up the door for me to get hired at Jellick . For two years I job shared teaching 4th and 5th grade. Unfortunately, I had to leave Jellick . I went on to teach at Villacorta Elmentary for a year, and at Hurley Elementary for two years. Now I’m glad to be returning to Jellick! As a teacher, I have high expectations for my students. My goal is to empower students to reach their highest potential and to strive for academic excellence. During my free time I enjoy reading, going to the beach, traveling, and seeking out new adventures. I am looking forward to a great year at Jellick!"
Jellick is excited to have all three teachers who have roots with our community.
